Scrumptious Spotlight: CooCaRoos Juice Bar
Good morning, Foodie world!
It is definitely a good morning, indeed. I awoke refreshed and energized, ready to tackle the day head on... Well, not really, lol.
It's Monday morning. The start of a new work week, which means lots and lots of traffic, school zones, fender benders, and did I mention traffic? Miami is a beautiful city and a great place to live, but there's no secret: There are a LOT of people out on the street! Whether you're on your way to work, dropping the kids off at school, or just going about your day running errands, we tend to spend a lot of time sitting down, behind the wheel of a car, behind a desk, or just at home watching TV. None of those examples scream "Healthy Lifestyle", obviously. Luckily, South Florida is home to many different smoothie spots and juice bars. No matter if it's a franchise like Jamba Juice, or owner ran and operated, like today's blog post cafe: CooCaRoos Juice Bar! Here's how I encountered Hollywood's hidden gem...
As I'm sure you've all read in my previous posts, I am very good friends with a local artist and writer, Michelle Morgan, affectionately known as @Michelles_Scriptures. Our good friends at 4ManKindTV at UniverseMiami had scheduled an interview with her at CooCaRoos Juice Bar in Hollywood, FL. I called it a hidden gem because it's literally hidden. I almost missed it driving down the street. When I got there, the spot was small and quaint. It oozed of local flair. There were a few tables and chairs set up, no more than four chairs to a table, and a bar that stretched from the entrance of the place to the back. Behind the bar, there was a huge chalkboard with the homemade juices and smoothies list, and it was as long as you can imagine. The possibilities were endless. But, of course, they had concoctions of their own. I myself had the Fruit A Roos: A sweet and refreshing blend of Strawberry, Pineapple, Banana, Papaya, and a hint of Ginger, and garnished with a round slice of Apple.
First off, I want to just emphasize how everything was made FRESH TO ORDER. There was no sugar added, no extra juice put in, nothing. Just the fruit. The produce was, legitimately, the star of the show (Just don't tell Michelle that, lol). That's why I loved CooCaRoos so much. Their philosophy on "farm-to-table". They want to buy the best of the best produce and it shows through their smoothies and juices. Not only are the delicious drinks made to order, they have a full blown menu! Conch fritters, Roasted whole fish, even Conch Soup. Made. To. Order. Ladies and gentlefoodies, I can't stress how amazing that truly is. To handcraft every single dish that comes out of that kitchen is truly remarkable. In busy night time restaurants and chains, it's near impossible to do that for someone? I'm almost positive that place would be out of business within the year.
Finally, though, it isn't enough to make a great tasting smoothie without a warm, friendly face behind it. Owner Maxwell Miller and his amazing team really know how to bring the healthy experience at CooCaRoos full circle. The young lady who made my smoothie greeted me with a smile from ear to ear, fully explained the menu, and was able to suggest a drink according to my personal likes and dislikes. Honestly, I am just so sorry I live so far away...
To Max and the CooCaRoos crew, thank you for your warm hospitality, your addictive smoothies and juices, and most important, your attention to detail. You've made an Island Gyal out of me.
As always, my fellow food (and drink) lovers, I'm sending you nothing but love and delicious noms from my heart to yours.
Exquisitely yours,
Nicky
